Our History

Creative Costuming & Designs was started in August of 1992 by Kevin and Noreen in their Huntington Beach, California home. In the beginning, they made patterns and cut material in the living room while sewing in the guest room. Later, they converted their garage into a production space. Many of their long-time customers still remember sitting in Kevin and Noreen’s living room, working on a design and then walking out to the garage to select materials!


In 2002 they moved out of the house into a commercial building and hired employees which started the growth towards what we see today. In the fall of 2005, Jason Kramer was hired and quickly became a driving force of the artistic direction of the company.His design aesthetic has lead the company to be one of the leaders in the pageantry activity.


Creative Costuming & Designs may no longer be operating from Kevin and Noreen’s house but the passion to deliver the best designs and costumes to every customer remains exactly the same as it was when they began that summer in 1992.

Noreen Roberts Owner and President

Noreen started twirling a baton in elementary school with the Paramount Twirlers then the Yankee Doodle Dandies where at age 12 she moved to the color guard. Noreen was captain of her high school drill team and also marched with the Diplomats Drum and Bugle Corp where she was a flag and color guard captain.


Noreen is passionate about the pageantry activity and has remained administratively engaged over the years with WGI and the WGASC. She served as WGI president for 8 years, WGI Executive committee for 12 years and currently sits on the WGI Board of Directors as a Member at Large. Noreen was inducted into the WGI Hall of Fame in 2011. She is a former President of the WGASC and is a member of the WGASC Hall of Fame and recipient of the WGASC Order of Excellence award.

Kevin RobertsOwner and Chief Financial Officer

Kevin began playing trumpet in elementary school and performed in Band, Orchestra as well as the Diplomats Drum & Bugle Corps. He became an instructor and designer for drum corps, marching bands and color guards throughout the Western United States. Kevin has a BA in Psychology with a minor in Multi Media.


Kevin has been a leader in the judging community where he started judging for WG in 1989 and has been a Movement, GE and EA judge as well as serving on the Task Force as caption facilitator for both the GE & EA captions. He was inducted into the WGI Hall of Fame in 2011. Additionally, Kevin served at the President of the WGASC for 4 years, and is a member of the WGASC Hall of Fame and recipient of the WGASC Order of Excellence award.

Jason KramerArtistic Director and Lead Designer

Jason attended California State University Long Beach where he studied Theatre Arts, with an emphasis in Costume Design. After college, Jason designed costumes for local Theatre productions, where his design work earned an Inland Theatre League Awardnomination for excellence in costume design.


Before he began working at Creative Costuming in 2005, Jason had only experienced the Pageantry activity as a spectator. He was impressed with the athleticism and artistry of the performances and saw the opportunity to contribute his artistic vision and fashion-forward point of view to a whole different world. Jason’s favorite thing about designing costumes is the collaborative process with his clients. There is nothing more rewarding to him than bringing a unique vision to life.

Ashley PorterDesigner

Ashley graduated from San Diego State University with a B.A in Communication. She currently works as a Color Guard Director in addition to her position here at CC&D. Her performance affiliations include: The Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps, Yamato Drum and Corps, and Fantasia Winterguard. Ashley is married to Anthony Porter.

Caitlin LutkePattern Department Manager

Caitlin graduated from California State University Long Beach with a BA in Apparel Design and a BA Apparel Manufacturing. Caitlin was raised in tap shoes and ballet tights and has been a dancer her entire life. She has been a member of multiple competitive dance teams and taught Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop at Clovis Dance Connection. Before joining Creative Costuming, she designed apparel for the film and theater industries, as well as surf and action sports industries.

Cory RobinsonAdministrative Assistant

Cory grew up in the city of Norwalk, CA and graduated from Santa Fe High School. He attended California State University Long Beach and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies with a Concentration in Mathematics and a minor in Dance. While attending college Cory performed with Corona World Guard under the direction of Michael Shapiro in the winter seasons of 2006, 2007, and 2008. He spent his 2006, 2007, and 2008 summers marching with The Concord Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps and served as the 2008 Color Guard Captain. Cory has over 13 years of teaching experience and works with several High Schools in the Southern California region teaching both dance and Color Guard. Cory has worked with the Blue Devils Color Guard and currently works with The Academy and The Blue Stars Color Guard. Cory is thrilled to be a part of the CC&D team and loves being surrounded by such talented and intellectual individuals.

Chad KohlmierProduction Manager

Chad has been a performer with the Concord Blue Devils as well as a dancer and dance teacher for several companies throughout California. He has worked with several color guards in So Cal as a designer, caption head, movement expert, or choreographer. He has also judged for several marching band and winter guard circuits including SCSBOA and WGASC. He loves making dreams come true as part of the Creative Costuming & Design family.

Christine TetzlaffBusiness Manager

Christine has been involved in the marching activity since the age of 7, starting in Dutch Boy Drum & Bugle Corp. She continued her marching career with Cadets at the age of 16 and aged out with the organization. She joined the teaching staff at Cadets and worked there for several years, eventually became the operations director for the Cadets and the Crossmen after she stopped teaching. Christine is married to her husband Joel and has two beautiful children Seth and Sydney.


As the Business Manager at CCD, Christine is responsible in making sure that from the moment a client places an order until the order leaves the building the process is moving along in the time that was allotted and that the client is 100% satisfied with the end product.

James GoodrichSenior Designer and Operations Analyst

James attended California State University Long Beach where he studied Theatre Arts. James began his involvement in the Marching band/Colorguard world as a trombone player in his high school marching band. His performance career included marching as a member of the Velvet Knights Drum & Bugle Corps, the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps, Axxis Winterguard, and as a dancer in shows and parades at Disneyland.


James has worked as an instructor and designer with several Colorguards in the Southern California area. While no longer teaching, James stays connected to the activity as a General Effect Judge. In 2012, James was inducted into the Winter Guard Association of Southern California Hall of Fame.

Jean Coulet du GardDesigner

Jean attended the University of Delaware, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree of Art's and Science in Apparel Design in the spring of 2003. While attending school he was a member of The Black Watch Independent world guard, and in the summer, performed with both the Crossmen, and the Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps. After aging out, he spent his summers teaching the Phantom Regiment drum corps.


Jean has worked, and lived in the Raleigh, NC area creating productions from show concept, costume/flag design, and staging for over a decade. In the winter of 2013 the Atlantic Indoor Association inducted Jean into their prestigious award, "The Hall of Honor"

Jenifer GuldnerHuman Resource Administrative Coordinator

Jennifer received her B.A from CSUF in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resource Management, and is currently working on a dual M.A. at Webster University. She handles multiple items; payroll, recruiting and hiring to name a few for Creative. Jenifer has been part of the color guard activity since middle school. A few places she has performed are the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps, Corona and Fantasia. She is married to her husband Tim and has a newborn baby boy Nicholas plus two dogs, Noodles and Emma.

Joey AvalosAccounting Manager

He began his journey with the company in July of 2011, and has since helped to shape various administrative leadership roles as the company has grown and developed. Having been immersed into the color guard activity in 1995, he jumped at the opportunity to work at CC&D, due to the owner’s reputation of excellence and knowledge in all aspects of the activity.


He is grateful for this opportunity to give back to the performance world that has given him so much over the past 20 years, and hopes to continue for many more

Kristina LariosDesign Assistant

Kristina is currently going to college for graphic design. Being able to read/write/speak Spanish fluently is her proudest accomplishment. She really loves fashion and loves that she gets a ”backstage” view into how amazing costumes are created.


In her free time, you can find her casting spells at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, having her eyebrow game on fleek, Jedi training, Netflix binge watching and catching Pokémon.

Leslie VillaDesign Assistant

Leslie Graduated from Cerritos College with a certificate to become a certified Esthetician. Since a young age, Leslie has always had an eye for design and fashion. When she was given the opportunity to work for a design company she was thrilled and decided to take that route. Leslie considers her greatest accomplishments to be able to better support herself on her own. Leslie plans on continuing her education at Cypress College to receive her degree in Sonography.


Leslie likes to venture out, travel and try new things. She also loves spending quality time with her three children, "her dogs" Dingo, Canelo, and Chovie.

Lisa PowersInventory Control and Purchasing Manager

Lisa grew up in Pelion, South Carolina. Several years ago she took a leap of faith and moved from the east coast to the west coast, a place completely out of her comfort zone. Lisa started work at Creative Costuming as a seasonal employee and was eventually hired on as permanent. She has learned a lot about the pageantry arts as well as more than she ever expected to about shiny, glittery and sequin fabrics.


Lisa is very proud of her two children, Neal and Kelley, who have grown into compassionate and caring adults. She is also thankful for her husband Roy. In her free time, Lisa loves to read or try out new recipes in her kitchen.

Skye PatersonDesigner

Skye’s performance experience includes multiple medal winning color guards, in high school and out. After wearing Creative Costuming uniforms throughout her color guard career, she couldn’t be more excited to work behind the scenes among our amazingly talented staff.


Skye has been a member of the team since early 2012. She has worked in nearly every department, gaining knowledge and insight along the way. This experience has led to her current position, assisting our designers and their clients throughout the process, from first vision to final product.

Marva AyloushDesign Assistant

At a young age, Marva knew she would have a passion for fashion & costuming when she started to draw on her walls and cut her clothes up. She has traveled from Istanbul, Turkey at the age of 12 to pursue her dreams in California. She graduated from the Art Institute of California with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design. She has many accomplishments such as being a featured designer in Orange County Fashion Week and Los Angeles Fashion Week. She has always had an unconditional love for performers and an eye for sequined fabric. She loves being a part of CC&D and helping to make designs come to life.


In her free time, Marva enjoys going to museums, sketching fashion illustrations, buying different kinds of fabric, discovering new music, and traveling to new places to find inspiration for fresh ideas.

Brenda SanchezDesign Assistant

Brenda joined Creative Costuming and Designs the summer of 2016 and started as a part of the Quality Control team. She then moved on to the Front Desk and now is a Design Assistant. She is a Cal State Long Beach Alumni. Brenda loves mangos, has two chihuahuas (Dumbo & Zero) and a love bird (Birdy). When she is not working behind a desk she dreams of snorkeling in exotic locations and traveling to different areas of the word to try the coffee.
